Sagittarius Full Moon 2017

Tonight’s (Friday 9th of June) Full Moon is sandwiched between retrograde Saturn and Black Moon Lilith in the sign of Sagittarius ~ its truth time. Amid confusion and doubt we face the reality that truth is relative personal grey so we must simply choose our own version, and devote ourselves to it.

Fingers crossed?

As the light shines upon uneasy aspects of Self we might discover a path forward, renewed optimism and restored faith. The energy calls us all to see that our quest demands commitment to individuation, and resistance to old ways that tempt us to remain stuck in self-sabotage and victim consciousness. But too, to be warned against folly and delusion as we make our choices. To remain true to our task.

Opposite the Full Moon in Sagittarius is the Sun in Gemini, on Wednesday joined by Mercury, so I’ve been thinking on communication ~ how we can be so easily misunderstood, how we misrepresent ourselves, how we judge others based on our own misunderstandings ~ and as well, how good conversation seems to be an ailing art form. This passage by infamous provocateur James Hillman taken from his inspiring and lol-worthy work with Michael Ventura: We’ve had 100 years of therapy and the world’s getting worse (1993), describes the phenomenon of conversation so eloquently.

“Conversation isn’t easy… take a dinner party. Strike up a conversation and keep it flowing – not a monologue, not only opinions and sounding off, not only firing questions, but conversation as an exploration, a little risky adventure, a discovery, an interesting happening. Parties, doing lunch, and 7.30am breakfasts are terribly important in keeping the consciousness [of society] at a certain intensity, moving its mind adventurously toward deeper discoveries.

What doesn’t work, we also pretty well know: personalism – just talking our loud about what we feel. Complaints. Opinions. Information doesn’t work… and lullabies don’t help either – singing charming little stories to prevent anything from entering the heart or mind. And boosterism isn’t conversation either – broadcasting, self-advertising what we are doing, have done, going to do. You can’t converse with a sales pitch of positive preaching. All these kinds of talk… interfere with conversation…

Good conversation has an edge. It opens your eyes to something, quickens your ears. And good conversation berates: it keeps on talking in your mind later… That reverberation afterwards is the very raising of consciousness; your mind’s been moved… A conversation turns things around… And to keep turning means that it’s no use having fixed stands, definite positions. That stops conversation dead in its tracks.”

Beyond the cringeworthy zealotry and unsolicited sermons of low-road Sagittarius, past low-road Gemini’s repetitious parroting of previously heard ideas opinions rhetoric and too-oft-told anecdotes there is potential for words spoken and shared to lift us out of old thought forms, to shift us in meaningful ways, to alter our previously held perceptions of how things are

for transformation to occur

Our Moon-shadows will be visible this weekend. The inherent opposition offers perspective; we are challenged to consider our long-held views ~ where do we refuse to budge, and why? Can we allow enough room to really talk to those around us, converse connect conflict ~ make like The Mutables and change our minds?

Finally, lunation ruler Jupiter turns direct on Saturday, preparing for his final months in Libra during which time opportunities arise for us to harmonise relate cooperate with others, and to discover in ourselves what aids our capacity for balance and equilibrium. Evolutionary astrologer Maurice Fernandez spoke about this transit of Jupiter through Libra as a time that may see us doing things we’d have not thought we would ever do. This has been true for me, and I hope for more of it, for you all too 🙂

Scorpio Full Moon 2017

May’s Full Moon in Scorpio (11th May 3.45am AWST) invites us to become more recognisant of death as an imperative transformational phase in the cycle of life ~ though we shy away from its implications (apparent finality, pain, loss, sorrow) there might be more to it than meets the eye

Scorpio and its modern ruler Pluto are often associated with death, not limited to physical death but the many endings+losses we experience as part of life ~ often resisted and struggled against as we fight to retain or regain control…

We can become so caught up in being “right” and in winning battles that we identify as being necessary and righteous, but truly nothing is gained from victories of this kind. It never feels good to “win” by force. And when it comes down to what really matters, does it really matter?

The traditional ruler of Scorpio is Mars ~ an inwardly expressed Mars (via the yin sign of Scorpio) is a force to be reckoned with, and wholly dependent upon our own willingness to work with energy transformation…

Do we choose fear (anger rage resentment frustration aggression)

or courage (assertiveness will confidence independence right action)?

How easy it is to condemn others, to wash our hands of any culpability for the problems we encounter, to point and shake our heads at those people;  that hysterical woman, aloof man, dysfunctional neighbours…

Evil-doers abound, and thus so do chances for us to shirk our responsibilities and scapegoat perpetually…

For as long as we insist upon foisting our own shadows on others, we remain at the mercy of our unconscious power. Blaming instantly transports us to victimhood, a place that renders us impotent+lame frustrated+struggling. But as we confront the uncomfortable truth ~ this mess is our own ~ we recognise that all our experiences contain potential for transformation ~ alchemy ~ lead > gold

We might turn unpleasant experience into something for which we can be truly grateful. We might honour loss with life lived more wholeheartedly

Becoming the butterfly

This change occurs within the space that is grace, and we access it from a point of reverence humility faith

This week, when our defences may be up, our wit is sharp and our tongues are sharper, we do well to look within for ways to resolve our problems. No matter how clever our arguments might seem, or how justified we feel in our rigidity, Scorpio knows that the truth sets us free

and the truth is that we are all made of pure love

and when we let it flow through us, miracles occur. Nothing less.

Aries Full Moon

My Libra Sun ~ Aries Moon baby girl blazing a trail
My Libra Sun ~ Aries Moon baby girl blazing a trail

This weekend’s Aries Full Moon is edgy, with potential for genius insights, unsettling awakenings and anything in between. The nearby presence of Uranus and Eris suggest that we ought to expect the unexpected and, in preparation for the dark overtones, cultivate impulse control.

Uranus’ mutinous urge to individuate is not always fit for public consumption. And Eris’ poor social skills of mythic proportions see her eternally exiled. Other planetary heavy hitters throwing their weight around this weekend include power trippers Mars and Pluto scaling the peaks of (Mt.) Capricorn; Black Moon Lilith treading the dark waters of Scorpio, Saturn relentlessly driving home his Sagittarian point du jour in attempts to keep us North (Node) bound…

But where is the light of this lovely Moon?

We look to (not directly at) the source of life ~ the Sun ~ to find our middle road that leads us to Libra high country! Pursued by Mercury and Jupiter, recall that clear communication, optimism and courtesy take us a long way this weekend… we catch more flies with honey. Although I don’t know why we want to catch flies?

Remember to breathe

be kind and

stay calm

Libra New Moon

The Libra New Moon occurs on Saturday 1st of October 2016 (8.11am AWST). The Sun and Moon are at 8° Libra and nearby at 4° we find benevolent Jupiter. Such an auspicious New Moon this is! And it has depth too.

Venus is the ruler of the lunation, and she is conjunct Lilith in Scorpio. Another reminder of our inner feminine ~ soft receptive yin processes coupled with the self-assuredness of inner knowing. There is an awakening of this powerful force occurring and this New Moon presses for the increased awareness of the neglected (and thus often angry) unconscious feminine. As we integrate feminine power, we come to know her mercy.

Scorpio represents the dark in all its complexity. Nothing is as it appears. Light allows us clarity of vision, but sometimes robs us of the subtlety of feeling. In the dark it is the only way forward, to feel our way.

The Sun~Moon~Jupiter square Mars and Pluto in Capricorn. There is strength and power here. It is important for us to know what we truly want as these two planets conjoin later this month, for such misdirected energy has the power to harm. Mars’ exaltation in Capricorn adds fervour to our mission: we now begin to implement our long-considered plans and Mars spurs us on supportively.

Neptune and the Lunar South Node remain in conjunction in Pisces ~ our efforts at releasing that which no longer serves us are supported now. The Dark Moon in Virgo helps us to discern what these things might be… habits, relationships, attachments, the past, limiting “stories of me”

2011_0103end20100378

Libra seeks balance. Implicit in balance is a midpoint, a midline, a middle road. And as we journey towards establishing our own balance~ homeostasis ~ equilibrium we must first experience imbalance. We experiment and evaluate, investigate and appraise in an ongoing (potentially exhausting) human trial and error display that takes us to extreme and polar ends of the spectrum of life.

During an Equinox meditation with Sol W. Jonassen I was struck by the concept of the midline (third eye~heart~solar plexus). Throughout this mediation she reminded us to return to our midline. I found this simple act of going within and knowing my own centre point to be very supportive.

I have been using it since then in my daily life, trying to remember to come back to my midline during the day. When things become frustrating or boring or crazy or challenging in any way it becomes particularly helpful. I have used other methods to ground myself in this way in the past (usually breathing deeply) but these often require time and space that is not always realistic (what with The Cherubs underfoot). This little idea has been so beneficial to me…

here’s what I do: I shut my eyes and put my attention on my inner third eye or my heart chakra, or maybe both if I have time, and something happens… there is space… inner space… and at the same time there is comfort… I feel better.

A tiny reminder of the middle way…

not cowardly or reckless but courageous

not loose or rigid but flowing

not resistant or resigned but accepting

not aloof or possessive but engaged

not narcissistic or martyred but authentic

not right or wrong but learning

not attachment or aversion but love

For so long as we are genuinely doing our work we are on the right track, so let us journey on friends ♥

Leo New Moon

Lola with the Leo New Moon
Lola with her Leo New Moon

Wednesday the 3rd of August bears the gift of a New Moon in Leo… Regal, inclusive, generous, fun and warm, Leo contains our inner performance, the part of us that craves an adoring audience, applause, bouquets, standing ovations…

Low-road Leo evokes desperate neediness, relentless demands for appreciation and the royal treatment, and petulant poutiness and dramatic displays of dissatisfaction when these ceaseless expectations aren’t met.

But a high-road Leo energy is fabulous marvellous glorious, warm and encouraging like the Sun’s rays. Where we embrace the part of our psyche that gratefully accepts appreciation we each become a little more special. We are nurturing the small child within that might not have enjoyed the spoils of undivided parental adoration.

This New Moon is in square aspect to Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio, trine Saturn in Sagittarius and quincunx the Neptune~South Node conjunction in Pisces.

Black Moon Lilith’s continuing journey through Scorpio is a reminder to us all of the dark feminine that dwells deep within our consciousness. So often this energy appears dormant, a latency that holds power and self-assuredness. When we are able to integrate this strength we become less needy, expressing ourselves without an inbuilt need for kudos and praise.

Saturn demands our integrity, a willingness to accept personal responsibility for our own consciousness and the ways in which we allow it to manifest. While Leo’s need to perform is valid, Saturn reminds us that we must aim to do so with dignity and poise. As the Moon is New we might re-commit to our self-expression in ways that honour our personal need for attention with mindful respect for others.

Within the Leo New Moon’s uneasy aspect to the Lunar South Node~Neptune conjunction we encounter an inner propensity to look back with nostalgic rose-tinted glasses. Whilst an ability to find gratitude, compassion and forgiveness in retrospect can be liberating, healing and transformational, we must be aware of the dangers of repetitive behaviours that damage us. The South Node describes a past that has hurt us, and our consciousness now benefits from awareness of low-road Piscean urges (escapism in all its forms).

As we greet the new Moon cycle we invite our Inner Child to revel in creative expression. Conjure a future that stirs your soul. Even if it is a mere daydream, a cloudy image in your mind’s eye, as the Moon renews this month indulge your joyful Self, grant yourself permission to imagine, play and create with abandon, just for fun…

Black Moon Lilith

The dark feminine is one very punished~banished archetypal figure in our human psyche, often relegated to the shadow because we have forgotten how to handle our strong female energy. Even in these liberated contemporary times, she continues to be shunned, condemned, reviled, blamed, rejected, neglected, vilified, renounced, demonised and hated: the Witch Hunt continues.

We owe much to the feminist movement, but it seems perhaps the quest to be deemed mens’ equals was misguided? Now it seems women have fought successfully for the right to do everything men can, so now we have little choice. We have accepted that we must meet the needs of the patriarchy ~ the perfect projection of the Goddess upon our mere mortality ~ now we must work, home-make, child-rear, and in the words of Usher: be a lady in the street and a freak in the bed, and still be underpaid!

Our primeval roles ~ mother nurturer healer wild woman magus mystic witch whore ~ suffered at the hands of the patriarchy so that womens’ natural abilities became worthless, in a world that prizes achievement aggression action ambition advancement above all else. Many thousands of women who refused to renounce their gifts and artistry paid a hefty price ~ burning at the stake a welcome relief after suffering through much cruelty.

With this uprising of the Church and the denial of Pagan nature worship women became viewed as either evil demonesses or weak/meek victims: mere burdens men must bear in order to prolong lineage. We were (are) none of these, but rather the courageous and strong receptacles of ancient Goddess knowledge. A wisdom so deep dark mysterious and inconstant that the masculine cannot contain it by force, or define it with reason, or control it, thus we fear it.

For a long time, I’ve pondered the dark feminine. I have contemplated and meditated, working towards conscious integration of this most powerful energy that resides within me, and each of us, men and women alike. Astrologically, we can look to Black Moon Lilith (a mathematical point, not a celestial body) to help us understand ways in which this energy is expressed (or repressed) in our own psyches.

Black Moon Lilith has completed her nine month journey through Libra, and can be found now (until February 2017) in the sign of Scorpio ~ well matched energies we can surmise, with Scorpio symbolic of the dark Yin Plutonian underworld. My natal Lilith lives in Scorpio too, so as my BML Return looms large on my horizon, I wonder what she has in store for me, and others born between January and October 1981?

Mythologically, Lilith was demonised by the patriarchy for her wilful independence as she, despite heinous blackmail attempts involving perpetual losses of sacrificial progeny, preferred her freedom to cavort with demons and devils on the shores of the Red Sea than to play second fiddle to Adam in Eden. Thus, Adam had a new and satisfactorily subservient bride fashioned from one of his ribs ~ enter the agreeable Eve.

In her refusal to bow before the masculine, and thereby compromise on her principles, Lilith had no choice but to leave, exiled but integrity intact. She is simultaneously sorrowful and fierce: mourning the daily loss of her own children, and her place in Eden as a rightful equal to Adam, she blazed her own lonely trail, belonging to no one. She returned later with a vengeance, disguised as a serpent, convincing Eve to tempt Adam into sinful relations. Rebellious? Perhaps. Defiant? Indeed. Righteous..?

Can we not all do with some Lilith fire in our bellies?

As an archetypal figure she remains largely dissociated from our personal and collective consciousness’. Apart from the angry feminists that have gone to the other end of the spectrum and identified with the disenfranchised feminine so extremely they hurt their cause (not to mention themselves!) in attempts to correct the imbalance between male~female. The rest of us prefer denial, and projection of our inner Lilith upon all those other crazy bitches out there.

Herein lies our mistake: Lilith exists within us all. It is convenient to scapegoat the most difficult women we know and label them mad imbalanced deranged demanding irrational hormonal hysterical et al because it frightens and disgusts us to think that we are capable of the very same behaviours. Men especially struggle to accept the gorgon when she is unleashed, and often react with stoney disengagement that further riles the woman’s shadow.

IMG_0677“Lilith appears in our daily life when we find ourselves in those situations where we are not free to express ourselves, nor valued for our wisdom. Prevented from acting, moving, choosing and determining our life circumstances. We may feel forced to obey others against our own better judgement, and pressured to suppress qualities that others find unacceptable and threatening” (George, 1992, p.188).

Lilith in Scorpio can be a time of reconciling with Lilith, as we recognise our capacity for rage that is vile and extreme. The release of accumulated repressed anger (often expressed in explosive ways) allows us to examine our feelings. An opportunity for integration of this new found self-knowledge presents at such a time, as Lilith tries to free us from pretences. But too often we relent to feelings of humiliation and shame, and retreat to status quo. The violence we have exhibited leaves us remorseful as we have exposed this vulnerability and frightened ourselves with the power we possess. If we are brave, we might be able to face the shadow of Lilith, and hear her message. From here we begin to heal, and invite conscious and creative expression of Lilith power into our lives.

“There is no coming to consciousness without pain. People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own Soul. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.” C.G.Jung

Sagittarius Full Moon, take one

Sunday 22nd of May sees the first of two consecutive Full Moons in Sagittarius for 2016. Sagittarius symbolises Jupiterian expansiveness ~ experiencing life in all its diversity~ questing after truth.

DSCF0038
Building in Dubai, design inspired by hands in prayer

Sagittarius is faithful and philosophical, but can tend towards zealotry in pursuit of truth. There are two kinds of truth: absolute and relative. We must foster enough wisdom to recognise the difference, and in so doing avoid acting in righteous indignation or self-proclaimed rectitude. The more sure we become that our perspective is the right one (or absolute truth) the more we become embroiled in an ego-driven morality war. We lose sight of the relativism of our truth and our blood pressure climbs and we raise our voices and begin to advance and attack and…

Words are spoken ~ actions are taken ~

and cannot be undone

The low-road expression of Sagittarius can involve judgement, of self, of others, of life. Buddhists talk of equanimity ~ the belief that no experience is innately good or bad, just is. We cultivate acceptance, embracing our reality, knowing that “this too shall pass”…

“If you can meet with triumph and disaster                                  And treat those two impostors just the same”

Rudyard Kipling

This Full Moon aligns with Mars, the God of War urging us on in pursuit of our desires and defence of our territory… Poorly channeled Mars energy manifests as aversion ~ we dissociate from people, groups, ideas, organisations that displease us. So often this is a dissociation from an unconscious part of our own psyche that we project upon others ~ a scapegoat…

in lak’ech ~ ala k’in

Speaking of scapegoats, Black Moon Lilith too contributes strong energies to this Full Moon as she moves from Libra into Scorpio. The feistiness of Lilith can urge us to act hastily, “on principle” as driven by Sagittarian ethics. We may suddenly feel compelled to right a wrong, correct some imbalance, apply justice vigilante-styles! This archaic feminine energy can also be unconscious; we shoot first, ask questions later.

There is potential for things to become volatile with this Full Moon. We do well to consider our words and deeds carefully before we open our mouths or unsheathe our swords. Wise warriors know when to retreat, when to exercise restraint. With Mars continuing his retrograde trip, this Full Moon is not the time to advance upon others in combat mode. Instead, use the Martial physical energy to expand horizons ~ adventure! Tap into Lilith’s power too, but release any angst in ways that harm none ~ paint, dance, create…

Sagittarius Full Moons illuminate truth. We can get so caught up in our own versions of truth, sharing our points of view, we forget that there may be other, equally meaningful perspectives out there. Instead of believing that we already know the truth, perhaps we can open ourselves to further expansion… invite new truth in… welcome new experiences… be curious and receptive to the cosmos’ offerings that are providing bountiful opportunities for us to

learn~grow~integrate~change~heal~forgive

expand our understanding, in the spirit of inclusion, embracing differences and seeking humanness
