Cancer New Moon 2017

Here in Australia it is the darkest time of the year ~ Dark Moon at the Winter Solstice AKA Sun into Cancer ~ time to follow the lead of the natural world, to turn within. At such a loony Lunar moment, leading up to the Cancer New Moon (10.31am AWST 24th June 2017), I thought I’d muse upon the Moon broadly…

The Moon is the ancient symbol of the Triple Goddess ~ maiden mother crone ~ and a reminder to honour our own needs as they wax and wane in a rhythm of their own. The Dark Moon time calls us to rest release repose in preparation for the New Moon: a time of new beginnings setting intention first steps… As the Moon waxes to Fullness we come to culmination, and we find things illuminated as the light increases, before the waning phase invites our return once more to centre as the energy turns inward once more.

Reverence for inevitable dark phases of life (sickness loss struggle grief depression) is surely more helpful and healthful than outright denial and avoidance? We have spent so long resisting the dark, the old crone face of the Goddess, the death decay destruction that is truly a necessary element of life… we medicate and distract and ignore and repress…

I often wonder if it is our collective rejection of the dark that has led us into the conundrum of this contemporary life #trumped ? If we each worked towards an acceptance and integration of the more complex parts of our psyches, could things turn around for humankind? I believe this to be the case, and hope that enough people will undertake this liberating work.

Because we don’t need everybody to change, not even the majority, just enough of us must be dedicated to the path of consciousness and we can turn the tides in favour of harmony healing wholeness

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has” Margaret Mead

Cancer is the Moon-ruled cardinal water sign and so represents our feeling and emotional natures. Cancer’s soft centre is protected by a tough outer shell which can hinder more than help as defences are hair triggered and overreactive, offending where a little yield would’ve done more good. Our emotional body can be primitive, carrying so many hurts of olde that ought to have been released long ago. Yet somehow, the tenacity of the Crab keeps it wedged between rocks in a harbour of grievances, pincers at the ready, prepared to take on any foe dumb enough to believe they could compete with Cancer’s sideways manoeuvres. Pity the fools.

Though perhaps Cancer herself is most foolish of all, guarding herself against imaginary enemies and holding on to angst of yore, allowing no love in or out.

We all have a Moon. And we all have Cancer within our birth chart. These receptive and reflective tendencies leave us at the mercy of the world around us. Our response is not logical, we are not even aware of it most of the time, but we feel it in our waters, and to the extent that we are sensitive to this, we act, or react. This strength is not to be underestimated, but it is so often repressed that we become more susceptible to the less conscious prickly manifestations of Crab energy.

With maturity (a balancing with Capricorn energies) Cancer learns to come out of her shell, to be less defensive and more vulnerable, to find joy in ties that bind but do not cling grasp need control, to retreat periodically like her Lunar ruler, disappearing in order to nurture her own needs.

We give thanks for the blessing of Winter: season to cherish the heart. To make warmth and quiet for the heart. To make soups and broth for the heart. To cook for the heart and read for the heart. To curl up softly and nestle with the heart. To sleep deeply and gently at one with the heart. To dream with the heart. To spend time with the heart. A long, long time of peace with the heart. We give thanks for the blessing of Winter: season to cherish the heart. Amen.♥ Michael Leunig

Gemini New Moon 2017

Early Friday morning (3.46am AWST 26th May 2017) heralds the New Moon in Gemini and our benevolent cosmos provides yet more opportunities for expanding our human potential…

And opening our minds

While Gemini says “I think” and seeks to gather information, we are wise to recognise that limitations are inherent in the dualistic modus operandi we currently collectively subscribe to. Perhaps this New Moon delivers a message of divine import ~ are we being called to realise our potential for a more integrated world view?

As we recognise that truth is not an either/or situation

but a both/and invitation to access all-encompassing whole truth.

This week there is an impasse, the dual nature of our either/or thinking leaves us without an out. We are bound between two incompatible realities, gagged by irreconcilable differences, and co-existence seems impossible. We feel hopeless, helpless. How can we escape this world of pain wherein nothing and no one seems willing or able to shift…?

The answer comes via objectivity, allowing enough space for the tension of the opposites to be as they are, releasing frustration and attachment, being open to the emergence of a mysterious reconciliatory creative relationship between the forces at play. Rather than to-ing and fro-ing evermore and finding ourselves disappointed compromised unfulfilled we might instead make room for a third force

Armenian mystic G.I. Gurdjieff describes the Law of Three ~ affirming denying reconciling ~ of which the inspiring Reverend Dr Cynthia Bourgeault writes “no resistance, no new arising

Or perhaps the necessity of opposition in evolution.

One way to access such a spacious place of grace is by becoming humble enough to question our own tendencies and patterns. Is it our own incapacity for flexibility and openness that prohibits our forward motion? Do our own limiting answers sabotage our journey on the path to what’s possible? Are we inadvertently repeating ourselves because we are not accepting authority for our lives?

Truly our potential is beyond our wildest imaginings

“But nothing can be attained in sleep” said G.I. Gurdjieff

While we do appear to be awake, fully-functioning autonomous grown-ups tending to our roles and responsibilities in the straight world, the truth is that until we awaken we are very much at the mercy of our unconscious inertia (even, or perhaps especially, when we behave and look as though we are actively doggedly pursuing “success”). Once we have one of those so-called peak experiences (often a brush with mortality, loss or trauma) and find ourselves suddenly irreparably conscious, life begins to unfold in miraculous ways that prompt us towards individuation, and life as we know it will never be the same again.

Gemini is associated with The Fool archetype, who signifies a kind of blind faith, optimism and willingness to set forth on a journey despite there being so many unanswered questions…

With Mercury now in Taurus we are reminded of the value of patience, to trust that life will present us with all that we need. Maintaining a stubborn belief that we already have all the answers does not foster the emergence of imagination. A little honest self-appraisal and reflective humility quickly reveals the illusory nature of such delusions of grandeur. Sometimes Spartan stillness is the only way to be granted access to the unapparent and uncomfortable avenue of answers.

The questions around our human existence demand that we find new solutions. To paraphrase Albert Einstein, a problem cannot be solved by the same consciousness that created it… thus we cannot hope to elucidate a path forward, personally or collectively, without expanding our consciousness, opening our minds, surrendering to our not-knowingness and inviting space/grace that allows possibilities to emerge ~ solutions.

Gemini is mutable and curious, so at this New Moon, let the information flow freely direct from the source, let the vulnerability of our imperfections give rise to acceptance compassion forgiveness, let us deepen our comprehension of that which we value, and let us open our whole selves to new possibilities.

Who knows what lies ahead in this mad world?!

Scorpio Full Moon 2017

May’s Full Moon in Scorpio (11th May 3.45am AWST) invites us to become more recognisant of death as an imperative transformational phase in the cycle of life ~ though we shy away from its implications (apparent finality, pain, loss, sorrow) there might be more to it than meets the eye

Scorpio and its modern ruler Pluto are often associated with death, not limited to physical death but the many endings+losses we experience as part of life ~ often resisted and struggled against as we fight to retain or regain control…

We can become so caught up in being “right” and in winning battles that we identify as being necessary and righteous, but truly nothing is gained from victories of this kind. It never feels good to “win” by force. And when it comes down to what really matters, does it really matter?

The traditional ruler of Scorpio is Mars ~ an inwardly expressed Mars (via the yin sign of Scorpio) is a force to be reckoned with, and wholly dependent upon our own willingness to work with energy transformation…

Do we choose fear (anger rage resentment frustration aggression)

or courage (assertiveness will confidence independence right action)?

How easy it is to condemn others, to wash our hands of any culpability for the problems we encounter, to point and shake our heads at those people;  that hysterical woman, aloof man, dysfunctional neighbours…

Evil-doers abound, and thus so do chances for us to shirk our responsibilities and scapegoat perpetually…

For as long as we insist upon foisting our own shadows on others, we remain at the mercy of our unconscious power. Blaming instantly transports us to victimhood, a place that renders us impotent+lame frustrated+struggling. But as we confront the uncomfortable truth ~ this mess is our own ~ we recognise that all our experiences contain potential for transformation ~ alchemy ~ lead > gold

We might turn unpleasant experience into something for which we can be truly grateful. We might honour loss with life lived more wholeheartedly

Becoming the butterfly

This change occurs within the space that is grace, and we access it from a point of reverence humility faith

This week, when our defences may be up, our wit is sharp and our tongues are sharper, we do well to look within for ways to resolve our problems. No matter how clever our arguments might seem, or how justified we feel in our rigidity, Scorpio knows that the truth sets us free

and the truth is that we are all made of pure love

and when we let it flow through us, miracles occur. Nothing less.

Libra Full Moon 2017

Another Full Moon is upon us, and the astroscape is intense! King of excess Jupiter (even in reverse-mode!) is keeping the spark alive between Change Gods Pluto and Uranus. Thankfully, retrograde Mercury, Saturn and Venus offer room for reflection ~ let’s hope the (ostensible) powers-that-be will allow themselves this luxury! Amidst these turbulent times, we too find solace in the inner space afforded by various retrogrades and waning cycles…

The Libra Full Moon, exact on Tuesday afternoon (2.08pm AWST) illuminates insights revealed by (Full Moon ruler) Venus’ magical retrograde. We are uncovering true worth, in ourselves, in others, in life and all she provides.

Venus’ new guise as the morning star represents awakening ~ as the truth dawns on us in all its beauty ~ we are reminded that our own self-worth is not dependent upon the approval of others…

I don’t need everybody to like me! I must remain true to my inner muse and honour my own truth by walking my talk, no matter what they say. Let me not be distracted by tall poppy ponderings…

“will they think I’m crazy?”

“who do I think I am?!”

On that note, forgive me a digression… the dream that came to me the night after my first astrology workshop (JupiterReturn-inspired conscious act of individuation) ~ I sit in a dark room beside an old lady who describes herself as the daughter of Carl Jung. She shows me her jewels ~ a pile of rainbow gems trinkets treasures riches ~ and then she departs, promising to return, leaving me poring over the valuables…

We are being asked now to trust in the Piscean mystery of life ~ to accept it as it is and know that, as we act in alignment with truth, we will be guided

and the jewels (our meaningful reward) will be entrusted to us in turn

The cosmos is now calling us to show up more visibly in our own lives. The light of this Moon helps us to see where we sell ourselves short + dumb ourselves down and empowers us to liberate ourselves! Authenticity is key to our sense of self-worth and to our ability to live wholeheartedly. Mars supports us in acting courageously and intentionally.

As Venus turns direct later this week we are also blessed with opportunities to let go of our concepts ideals attachments illusions delusions around love

For as long as we remain stuck in a view of what love should be we cannot know love. But the moment we surrender to the moment, in all its glorious imperfection, and accept our chosen mate in all his/her humanness, we find their true worth

and love appears.

Not only that, but a chance exists now to release ourselves from the self-imposed limitations of expectation

The true worth of things (situations events people) cannot emerge until we relinquish the clouded perspective of what we want them to be, which requires that they be different to how they actually are in reality…

Venus’ current fusion with Chiron helps us to find the value in our vulnerabilities. These “cracks where the light gets in” are indeed our gateway to humility and compassion, and so to genuine connection and intimacy.

Here we find Libra ~ relating to others & relating to life ~ we evolve through the contributions made by others and through our capacity to connect with these contributions meaningfully.

Aquarius New Moon

Saturday morning delivers our New Moon in Aquarius ~ sign of the genius revolutionary rebel exile that exists within us all. The Sun entered the fixed air sign of Aquarius last Friday morning and is joined now by the Moon, allowing us to gaze forward ~ to the future ~ intentionally taking the steps required to bring our vision into reality.

Aquarius and its modern-day planetary ruler Uranus, correlate with individuation and self-actualisation, wherein we know who we are but we must find courage to become it.

Becoming is the key. Who are we becoming?

In each moment of each day we are provided with an opportunity to act consciously and in alignment with what we want to be ~ the destined Self ~ or we can default to autopilot and the unconscious tendencies of yore.

Sometimes the road to expanding consciousness is lonely long winding ~ treacherous and steep ~ with sheer drops into cavernous gorges to our right and crumbling cliff faces threatening landslide to our left. There are no signs no maps no indication that this is The Way

Apart from some tiny inkling within that urges us on despite the apparent recklessness and the loud voice that hollers abuse from within “go home you fool!”

Is this tiny inkling the spark of individuating Self, that knows this is the only way? Even though everyone else might whisper and point and ridicule and condemn (and perhaps secretly admire but never admit it aloud) we just know we must go on.

Such knowing can get us into trouble of course. It is important to cultivate insight, frequently checking in with our motivations and evolving consciousness to ensure that we are on course and that the path we are treading is still aligned with our own self-actualisation. When we hear our voice speaking in tones that signal arrogance and pride and stubbornness we must be alert to our own egoic missteps.

But when the knowing is sort of quiet, self-assured, intent, humble, cautious but confident, perhaps then we might trust it. As we continue on, step by step, working diligently towards the goals and future we dream of, we might have faith that indeed this is The Way.

Asteroid Hygieia’s trine to Uranus supports our healing journey towards wholeness, especially encouraging restorative connection with nature now. Contemplation of our place in the Circle of Life fosters a sense of reverence as we marvel at the majesty of It All whilst also knowing that each of us is made of the same stuff

~ we ~ no less than the stars and the Moon

In balance, Venus square Saturn and separating from Chiron emphasises self-love and acceptance of our ubiquitous human frailty. In the wake of what might’ve shaken us to our core we find strength in our recognition that, despite our many differences, we are fundamentally all the same ~ one humankind ~ Aquarius…

This year promises so much, but we each must do our bit. Despite our misgivings, anxieties, doubts and worries, Mars’ imminent ingress into Aries might inspire us all to act bravely, in accordance with our own truth…

an’ it harm none, do what ye will ∞

Pisces Full Moon

img_4361
Jellyfish washed up on Smiths Beach

The Full Moon Eclipse in Pisces conjunct Chiron occurs on Saturday the 17th of September at 3.06am (AWST). Pisces ~ the Fishes ~ submerged beneath the waves of a sea of consciousness~god~source ~spirit~anima mundi or, as Jung put it, the collective unconscious ~ that which eludes our rationalist scientific modern-world perception. A potentially healing Full Moon, adorned with opportunity and fraught with dangers ranging from penetrating clarity and fearless moments of awakening and release to violent rage and damaging loss of self.

Neptune is the planetary ruler of this Full Moon, and too in the sign of Pisces. Within us all exists the Pisces~Neptune archetype, and so there is a part of each one of us that yearns to return to Source, to become One With All That Is, to escape the limiting concrete reality in all its Saturnian rigidity, connecting to something bigger than ourselves. So often, in this secular society, we find our Oneness in escapism. To dull the separation anxiety suffered as a result of our disconnection from spirit, we anaesthetise ourselves with various substances, distractions and indulgences.

Neptune is a prominent energy throughout 2016, and this Full Moon Eclipse highlights the pertinent manifestations for our consideration and integration. Importantly, Neptune is conjunct the Lunar South Node in Pisces, lending an ethereal vibe to our retrospective view of the past. As we look back we might be tempted to don rose-tinted glasses, perceiving times gone by as something they were not. Fundamentally, with the South Node we consider the low-road options in depth as they represent our unconscious~default tendencies. With Neptune, we know these are slippery and tempting, as they offer escape from the pain of our reality, but at such great cost.

Cue the eternal realist Saturn (square Neptune and the Lunar Nodes) persistently pushing us to see things clearly. To look back with less nostalgia and more equanimity, less delusion and more compassion, less blame and more forgiveness ~ allows us to go forward with more purpose, clarity, courage, power, maturity, wisdom, strength…

Chiron, the Wounded Healer, and his presence in (conjunction with the Full Moon in) Pisces invites us to heal our spiritual wounds. This process is painful. The challenges are many. The more we uncover, the more there is to uncover. But far from it being licence to moan, resigned to our lot in life, it is this work that will lead us to our healing, our truth, our bright future, and our own personal god experience.

Chiron’s movement through the zodiac explicates our best medicine for the moment, lest we become embroiled in our own tragedy. Pisces medicine unequivocally equates to spirituality. In true homeopathic style, the source of our pain contains the remedy to our ills. Our collective road to healing is one that leads us closer to the divine dance, wherein we are simultaneously honoured + honouring ~ creation + creator. Our source of spiritual nourishment needn’t be religious in nature, but certainly requires us to find the sacred in life, and humility enough to show reverence for it.

At the apex of a T-square between the Sun~Mercury in Virgo and the Moon~Chiron in Pisces is Mars in Sagittarius. Having moved on from the post-retrograde conjunction with Saturn ~ courage of our convictions ~ Mars now picks up the pace heading for Capricorn. First though, his augmentation of this Eclipse adds an aggressive dimension to this somewhat yin~centripetal lunation. Its a juggle! As we inwardly try to manage the strong mutable energies we feel confused, perplexed, bewildered. With Mars in such a position of power, we can shoot off at the mouth ~ shoot from the hip as our anxiety gets the better of us. Rather, defuse Martial agitation with benign physicality ~ adventure ~ new horizons ~ fresh perspective in the fresh air ~ nature

Adding further unpredictability to the mix is Uranus+Eris in Aries trine Mars. Eris is the “newest” trans-Neptunian dwarf planet, named after the goddess of discord. Displeased at having been excluded from an Olympic wedding, shit-stirrer Eris cast an apple scribed with “to the fairest” at the feet of three chatting party guests ~ Pallas Athene, Aphrodite and Hera ~ invoking discord as each goddess naturally believed herself to be the fairest. Zeus delegated the responsibility of settling the quarrel to Prince Paris of Troy, who eventually (having secured the rights to Helen the most beautiful woman in the world) chose the corrupt Aphrodite.

The addition of Uranus and Eris to Mars’ already belligerent influence leads one to believe we might expect a certain amount of unpredictable discord in our lives presently. But Eris’ influence is one that, despite her reputation, belies some benefits when we do it right. While she is renowned for revelling in the suffering of others she aint all bad. And as always, we cannot merely reject these troublesome parts of ourselves, we must work to find a way to consciously express them. Discord isn’t always unwarranted. And competition isn’t inherently bad. At its best it inspires greatness, diversity and creativity.

So, at the culmination of this eclipse season, may we each find our high-road leading us to a future that nurtures our soul’s evolutionary intent. Keep the faith, if we build it, well you know 🙂 Once more, I borrow from Michael Leunig…

“God bless the lost, the confused, the unsure, the bewildered, the puzzled, the mystified, the baffled, and the perplexed. Amen.”

Virgo New Moon

Thursday the 1st of September (5.05pm AWST) brings us the Virgo New Moon Eclipse. And such a special one this is: farewell to Jupiter as it transitions into Libra and beyond on its 12 year cycle through the zodiac. Let’s make use of the simple and practical inspiration of Virgo, unearthing the numinous potential in the small things.

The North Node~Moon~Sun conjunction in humble Virgo, in opposition to the South Node+Neptune in dreamy Pisces, and anchored into a T-square by the Mars~Saturn conjunction in spirited Sagittarius. Once again the vibes are highly mutable, so we do well to adopt a flexible and adaptable attitude, welcoming the changes that face us now, and prepared to release the past with grace and an effort to forgiveness and compassion.

Forgiveness is tricky. My experience tells me that it is both a process, as well as the positive result of a process. It comes not through the espousal of ideals that have more to do with who we want to be than who we really are. But, once we have grasped that those who’ve wronged us have done so in ignorance (that is, they haven’t come to know their Divine nature) and are embroiled in the egoic material world traps that kid us into believing we must compete and impose and manipulate and betray in order to advance, we sense true compassion. We create space for empathy in place of the burdensome grievance that keeps us bound in knots of anger, resentment and victim-thinking. For so long as we remain in the grips of a grudge-bearing mentality, there can be no room for forgiveness.

BUT

in order to come to a place of authentic forgiveness (which may be only partial, and is subject to demur and falter and recoil, often repeatedly, before strengthening and deepening), we need to allow ourselves time (within the dark chrysalis) to feel the betrayal and suffering. Not perpetual wallowing in self-pity but accepting and observing the feelings, emotions and sensations that emerge from the pain. Within this we will uncover golden wisdom and transformative truth that helps us to see that our perspective is not the only one, and that, were it not for the actions of the “perpetrator”, we could not’ve come to this moment of metamorphosis that frees us like a butterfly, and empowers us in its alchemy.

We’ve turned the offering of lead into pure gold

~ wisdom ~ strength ~ healing ~ power ~

We understand that none of us is perfect, and it is in our imperfections that we uncover the most liberating and transformative gifts of our lives, including forgiveness. There is only love when we recognise the universal predicament of our human frailty.

The ruler of the New Moon is the now-retrograde Mercury, conjoined with Jupiter at 28° Virgo. In our honouring of this coincident beginning and ending we now pause to consider the gifts offered by Jupiter’s 13-month (since August 2015) journey through Virgo. How have we expanded our sense of service? How have we learned to discriminate in order to better focus upon our mission? How have we healed? Where do we find potential for further development?

One of Virgo’s lessons is that of humility. We come to recognise our own fallibility. We allow it to be seen by others. We drop the performance and come to our knees as we recognise that it is in service we make our specialness sacred. As we forfeit our ego’s limited perceptions of success (personal gain, fame, fortune) we find something of lasting value…

Mars & Saturn in Sagittarius

Warrior planet Mars conjoined with Saturn this week to add a little verve to our Sagittarius truth-finding mission. As we sharpen our focus and come to clarity in our personal belief systems we are strengthening the foundations upon which we build our future.

High-road Mars energy allows us to access our courage, to act righteously and with restraint, while low-road Mars sees us shooting off at the mouth in offensive bursts of rage and frustration. High-road Saturn supports us in our cultivation of wisdom as we meet our earthly obligations and take responsibility for this gift that is our life. Low-road Saturn keeps us duty-bound, perpetually towing the line and selling ourselves short #allworkandnoplay

This week’s Mars~Saturn fusion in Sagittarius has finally crystallised in its meaning for me. It was worth the wait to feel this emerge from within~without

The courage of our convictions! Can we live in alignment with our own truth as it emerges? Are we brave enough to persist on this lonely Saturnian path despite all the naysayers and discouragement? Will we blaze this trail with humility, grace and good humour? I, for one, will try.

As always, it is a matter of free will. Where we allow the energy to flow is what we allow to grow, in our consciousness and in our lives (as outer manifestation of our inner consciousness) thus if the Mars~Saturn conjunction is expressed stressfully we will experience challenging limitation and imposed resistance. Where we are able to surrender to this blockage and adapt to it we grow and strengthen, but if we resist resistance we will suffer.

April 2018 will see the next Mars~Saturn conjunction (in Capricorn) when we will begin to reap what we sow now, with the courage of Mars and the wisdom and patience of Saturn.

The exact conjunction occurred at 9° Sagittarius, setting the tone for this new Mars~Saturn cycle is the Sabian Symbol a golden haired goddess of opportunity and its meaning (as interpreted by Diana E. Roche) reads:

“This symbol speaks to the rewards guaranteed to the individual who is independent, self-reliant and willing to work hard for what he wants. The image of a golden-haired goddess of opportunity alludes to the the individual who follows his own dreams, creates his own good fortune, and refuses to prejudge a situation or accept anything at face value… Implicit in this symbol is the principle that every organism possesses the secret of its own survival, and that self-knowledge is the ultimate key to success. Be willing to continue in a course you know is right for you, even if you have to go it alone. Don’t lose enthusiasm or abandon your goals just because you aren’t continually receiving a pat on the back.” p.284 (1998)

May we each be blessed with the bravery of Mars and the determination of Saturn in pursuit of our Sagittarian quest for meaning.

Let us journey on friends ♥

Sagittarius Full Moon, take one

Sunday 22nd of May sees the first of two consecutive Full Moons in Sagittarius for 2016. Sagittarius symbolises Jupiterian expansiveness ~ experiencing life in all its diversity~ questing after truth.

DSCF0038
Building in Dubai, design inspired by hands in prayer

Sagittarius is faithful and philosophical, but can tend towards zealotry in pursuit of truth. There are two kinds of truth: absolute and relative. We must foster enough wisdom to recognise the difference, and in so doing avoid acting in righteous indignation or self-proclaimed rectitude. The more sure we become that our perspective is the right one (or absolute truth) the more we become embroiled in an ego-driven morality war. We lose sight of the relativism of our truth and our blood pressure climbs and we raise our voices and begin to advance and attack and…

Words are spoken ~ actions are taken ~

and cannot be undone

The low-road expression of Sagittarius can involve judgement, of self, of others, of life. Buddhists talk of equanimity ~ the belief that no experience is innately good or bad, just is. We cultivate acceptance, embracing our reality, knowing that “this too shall pass”…

“If you can meet with triumph and disaster                                  And treat those two impostors just the same”

Rudyard Kipling

This Full Moon aligns with Mars, the God of War urging us on in pursuit of our desires and defence of our territory… Poorly channeled Mars energy manifests as aversion ~ we dissociate from people, groups, ideas, organisations that displease us. So often this is a dissociation from an unconscious part of our own psyche that we project upon others ~ a scapegoat…

in lak’ech ~ ala k’in

Speaking of scapegoats, Black Moon Lilith too contributes strong energies to this Full Moon as she moves from Libra into Scorpio. The feistiness of Lilith can urge us to act hastily, “on principle” as driven by Sagittarian ethics. We may suddenly feel compelled to right a wrong, correct some imbalance, apply justice vigilante-styles! This archaic feminine energy can also be unconscious; we shoot first, ask questions later.

There is potential for things to become volatile with this Full Moon. We do well to consider our words and deeds carefully before we open our mouths or unsheathe our swords. Wise warriors know when to retreat, when to exercise restraint. With Mars continuing his retrograde trip, this Full Moon is not the time to advance upon others in combat mode. Instead, use the Martial physical energy to expand horizons ~ adventure! Tap into Lilith’s power too, but release any angst in ways that harm none ~ paint, dance, create…

Sagittarius Full Moons illuminate truth. We can get so caught up in our own versions of truth, sharing our points of view, we forget that there may be other, equally meaningful perspectives out there. Instead of believing that we already know the truth, perhaps we can open ourselves to further expansion… invite new truth in… welcome new experiences… be curious and receptive to the cosmos’ offerings that are providing bountiful opportunities for us to

learn~grow~integrate~change~heal~forgive

expand our understanding, in the spirit of inclusion, embracing differences and seeking humanness

Scorpio Full Moon

Friday the 22nd brings us April’s Full Moon at 3° Scorpio. The Sabian Symbol ~ a house raising ~ evokes community, cooperation, support, helpfulness, teamwork. The shared experience that, despite our active social media life, is increasingly lacking in modern times. Can we allow the quiet voice of our unconscious to be heard over the relentless tweets, status updates, podcasts and soundclouds? Its gentle reminder that despite feelings of isolation and loneliness, we are all connected. We are reliant upon one another in so many ways that we often take for granted. Life as we know it, globalisation~consumption~complication in excess can dull our sensitivity to one another and to the majesty of life itself, but observing the rhythms of the natural world (such as the Lunar cycle) allows us moments in time to recognise and appreciate our miraculous existence.

Scorpio is co-ruled by Pluto and Mars, both planets having turned retrograde just this week. This Scorpio Full Moon guides us towards the intended focus of the retrograde phases of the two power planets. Pluto harbours our soul’s deepest needs, and Mars drives us in pursuit of them.

Scorpio also corresponds archetypally to the eighth house of the natural zodiac. The eighth house traditionally represents taboo matters of instinct and security: sex, death and other people’s money. Contemporary astrology broadens its meaning to envelope also our darkness, secrets, power, and complexity. It follows on from the themes of the seventh house (relationships) and is thus symbolic of a deepening of partnership ~ intimacy ~ the consummation of a marriage ~ exposure of shadows ~ the blending of assets ~ beyond what is rightly shared by dear friends and valued business associates.

This Full Moon encourages us to consider our deepest relationships, and how we contribute to the health and wellbeing of the sacred unions we have chosen. The intention behind our alliance (whether its been vowed aloud before a delighted tearful audience or whispered privately in the dark after lights out) calls for respect, humility, sincerity, consideration, openness and love. Do we recognise the profound truth of it having been a choice? And now that we have made our choice can we take responsibility for its success? Now that we’ve made our marital bed, can we lay in it?

As explained by Robert A. Johnson in the illuminating work The Psychology of Romantic Love, can we sacrifice romance and thus make sacred life’s ordinariness?

IMG_6446

There is much joy

to be found in the

minutiae of life

Equally, the secrets of our inner Scorpio stir now, urging us to go deeper… explore our personal power. Scorpio’s counter point is Taurus and the two archetypes aim to balance one another: the Bull’s peaceful simplicity with the Scorpion’s chthonic complexity. If we’ve been hiding, or indeed hiding from, parts of ourselves, the retrograde phase supports our work in re-discovering more of who we are. Feeling our strength. Knowing our truth. Living authentically.

With the Sun now in Taurus opposing the Full Moon this lunation may remind us of our inherent human form limitation ~ mortality. To quote the Grim Reaper as depicted by Saturn Award winner William Sadler in the underrated 1991 teen flick Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey “you may be a king or a little street sweeper but sooner or later you’ll dance with the reaper”.

Finally, as this Full Moon glow bathes our planetary home this Earth Day we might also allow it to remind us of our connection to this blessed ball of rock on which we ride through space~time.
