Gemini New Moon 2017

Early Friday morning (3.46am AWST 26th May 2017) heralds the New Moon in Gemini and our benevolent cosmos provides yet more opportunities for expanding our human potential…

And opening our minds

While Gemini says “I think” and seeks to gather information, we are wise to recognise that limitations are inherent in the dualistic modus operandi we currently collectively subscribe to. Perhaps this New Moon delivers a message of divine import ~ are we being called to realise our potential for a more integrated world view?

As we recognise that truth is not an either/or situation

but a both/and invitation to access all-encompassing whole truth.

This week there is an impasse, the dual nature of our either/or thinking leaves us without an out. We are bound between two incompatible realities, gagged by irreconcilable differences, and co-existence seems impossible. We feel hopeless, helpless. How can we escape this world of pain wherein nothing and no one seems willing or able to shift…?

The answer comes via objectivity, allowing enough space for the tension of the opposites to be as they are, releasing frustration and attachment, being open to the emergence of a mysterious reconciliatory creative relationship between the forces at play. Rather than to-ing and fro-ing evermore and finding ourselves disappointed compromised unfulfilled we might instead make room for a third force

Armenian mystic G.I. Gurdjieff describes the Law of Three ~ affirming denying reconciling ~ of which the inspiring Reverend Dr Cynthia Bourgeault writes “no resistance, no new arising

Or perhaps the necessity of opposition in evolution.

One way to access such a spacious place of grace is by becoming humble enough to question our own tendencies and patterns. Is it our own incapacity for flexibility and openness that prohibits our forward motion? Do our own limiting answers sabotage our journey on the path to what’s possible? Are we inadvertently repeating ourselves because we are not accepting authority for our lives?

Truly our potential is beyond our wildest imaginings

“But nothing can be attained in sleep” said G.I. Gurdjieff

While we do appear to be awake, fully-functioning autonomous grown-ups tending to our roles and responsibilities in the straight world, the truth is that until we awaken we are very much at the mercy of our unconscious inertia (even, or perhaps especially, when we behave and look as though we are actively doggedly pursuing “success”). Once we have one of those so-called peak experiences (often a brush with mortality, loss or trauma) and find ourselves suddenly irreparably conscious, life begins to unfold in miraculous ways that prompt us towards individuation, and life as we know it will never be the same again.

Gemini is associated with The Fool archetype, who signifies a kind of blind faith, optimism and willingness to set forth on a journey despite there being so many unanswered questions…

With Mercury now in Taurus we are reminded of the value of patience, to trust that life will present us with all that we need. Maintaining a stubborn belief that we already have all the answers does not foster the emergence of imagination. A little honest self-appraisal and reflective humility quickly reveals the illusory nature of such delusions of grandeur. Sometimes Spartan stillness is the only way to be granted access to the unapparent and uncomfortable avenue of answers.

The questions around our human existence demand that we find new solutions. To paraphrase Albert Einstein, a problem cannot be solved by the same consciousness that created it… thus we cannot hope to elucidate a path forward, personally or collectively, without expanding our consciousness, opening our minds, surrendering to our not-knowingness and inviting space/grace that allows possibilities to emerge ~ solutions.

Gemini is mutable and curious, so at this New Moon, let the information flow freely direct from the source, let the vulnerability of our imperfections give rise to acceptance compassion forgiveness, let us deepen our comprehension of that which we value, and let us open our whole selves to new possibilities.

Who knows what lies ahead in this mad world?!

Taurus New Moon 2017

Wednesday evening’s Taurus New Moon represents our monthly opportunity to begin anew ~ having been armed with fresh insights or even inspiration that emerged during the six week Venus retrograde. These now become conscious as retrograde Mercury translates the messages from the Underworld and beyond into fodder for left brain integration…

“I have” says Taurus ~ a phrase to which we can all relate in our endless quest for security via accrual of more more more

yet, paradoxically, it is the relinquishment of our need for security that allows us to experience it

For things are not as stable as they might appear ~ security, like control, is an illusion

Symptomatic of the human condition, we tend to avoid any sense of insecurity by defaulting to reactive patterns that protect us from vulnerability.

But as we learn to abide in insecurity we open ourselves to new possibilities. We find ourselves grounded in the present, here and now, and able to respond creatively, with love, and not bound by fear (manifesting as anxiety anger rage depression etc).

If we could just allow ourselves the chance to pause

The security sought by Taurus can truly only be found within this liminal space ~ redemptive moments between moments that we might seize in order to find peace and escape the insanity of reaction and over-reaction.

The retrograde motion of Mercury, until the 4th of May, always encourages review reconsideration reflection

REcognition that there might be another way ~ some nuance that adds a new dimension to our comprehension of life’s meaning ~ slowing down to revise is not pointless

Walking on the beach looking for cuttlefish for the kids, I turn to head back the way I’ve come to give the girls the chalky treasures, I don’t expect to find many, if any, more to contribute to their collection yet I find at least half a dozen large ones I’d have thought it was impossible to overlook…

this simple analogy, I believe, is echoed in life’s multifaceted complexity. We often think we have all the facts, only to discover through the magical influence of time and space, that there are other previously imperceptible dimensions at play…

and delays have indeed favoured us, in spite of our resistance to them. Are we wise enough to learn to accept, even welcome, the slowing down of life against our will? Can we recognise that this intelligent and benevolent cosmos seeks to support and guide us?

The urge to push seems to occur for many of us during retrograde phases, especially with Mercury now in the feisty first sign of the zodiac Aries the Ram (cardinal fire BOOM!) but this is antithetical to what is generally required of such times. More often than not, though they can be difficult to endure, delays favour us. We find that when we surrender to the natural yin-ness and honour the call from within, we are rewarded by new insights and deeper understanding

Vibe a la The Bull and slow down

Taurus Uber~Moon

Tonight’s (9.53 AWST Monday 14th November 2016) Taurus SuperMoon is the mother of all Full Moons! Not since 1948 has she come so near in her Fullness, and we won’t be so close again until 2034! A visual spectacle to be sure, but what of the energy…?

This Full Moon offers us the opportunity to glimpse the ways in which we enable our own forward motion, or not. How do the resources we cultivate allow our going forward as co-creators of our lives? Or not? How do we allocate our resources? Time, money, energy, effort… how do we prioritise our chosen pursuits? And what motivates us in these choices? Honestly.

So much of life is spent in mundane reality. There are bills to pay, mouths to feed, dishes to do… an unending loop of mortal coil. To aid in our functioning we forge efficient routines, habits, grooves, ruts. We can live within the safety of routine for a long time, habitually replaying our moments and our thoughts. Forever if we forget to wake up. Life can become a relentless working week, or similar.

Often, we must work to the rhythms of others (children, employer, partners, friends), perhaps neglecting our own. As we lose contact with our own needs we become increasingly disconnected from our innate fixed earthy feminine (not female) Taurean wisdom

Taurus rules our inner security ~ high road Taurus takes us from possessive materialism that attempts to buy our sense of contentment to the land of peaceful self-sufficiency via connection to our own physical bodies ~ being fully in our bodies and nourishing our physical needs with premium sustenance, hydration, movement, rest, repose

Through consciously engaging with what our bodies need in any given moment and honouring those needs in deed we supply our material form with the energy it requires to carry us through our mundane days, working towards our hopes and dreams, living with presence and an attentiveness to our inner lives where we find

life is rich with meaning that transforms our reality

Too, Taurus helps us to acquire the resources (skills) we need to patiently slowly steadily bring our dreams into manifestation. Greek God Hephaestus has been linked to Taurus; Melanie Reinhart writes,

“Like Chiron, Hephaestus was wounded… [he] represents a creative energy which does not turn in upon itself and destroy its own potential in response to the pain of having been rejected… Hephaestus enables others to express their own individuality and their selfhood, or their inner divinity, and this gift is part of his own individuality. He is dedicated to his craft despite being wounded. He refuses to be crushed by rejection and humiliation, but instead honours and expresses his own creativity… [he] represents the potential, through self-respect and perseverance, to turn one’s area of woundedness into a place from which fine creativity can issue.”

The illumination offered at this Full Moon asks us to consider our Scorpionic darkness yes, but as well, to find our inner warrior Pallas Athene ~ goddess of wisdom ~ who will empower embolden inspire us in our journeys onward toward individuation, toward finding our innate source of inner security, toward wholeness. There may be battles, within and without, as we remain true to our selves. This path of authenticity is not easy, but the only path that promises true fulfilment beyond the mere material ~ we find our serenity in the quiet knowledge of having lived in alignment with our own values. Peace be with youse 🙂

Taurus New Moon

Saturday the 7th of May 3.31am (AWST) brings us the annual Taurus New Moon. Balance is key to life, and so to astrology. The sign opposite Taurus is complex and emotional Scorpio. The Scorpio Full Moon of two weeks ago (when we lost Prince), along with the stationing retrograde of Pluto, bestowed real depth on the cosmic vibe. We were reminded of our inherent connectedness to others, and of the limits imposed on our human condition.

Now the energies balance somewhat as Mercury, Venus, Vesta and the Sun convene in Taurus, and the New Moon draws our attention here. Taurus: the sign of self-sufficiency. Simplicity. Peace. Sensuousness. A reliability that is comforting. No need to push for change, or move quickly. Relax. Breathe. Be here now. Like Ferdinand the Bull, taking time to sit quietly and smell the flowers.

Low-road Taurus can be stubborn and unyielding, but the Bull’s ponderousness is not always a weakness. Mindfulness, care and consideration require us to slow down. Stillness should not be mistaken for laziness: in silence~solitude~stillness we find peace and fulfilment that cannot be accessed any other way.

As an Earth sign, Taurus is practical and linked not only to money and material possessions, but also to skills as resources. All of these contribute to our sense of security and survival as well as our self-worth and confidence. The acquisition of skills requires effort, patience and practice = Taurus in action.

Finally, tapping into Taurus means we learn to heed the wisdom of our bodies. The body is a physical link to the divine and its ailments and impediments contain messages direct from the Source. A little loving attention can reveal the message within our somatic concerns, whatever they may be. There is always something we can gain from an apparently negative health situation.

My own story: about a decade ago I sought professional opinion for my chronic goitre. I immersed myself in the biomedical model’s diagnostic process and after many tests, doctors appointments and sleepless nights I was informed that my thyroid nodules may be cancerous and advised to have my thyroid gland removed. The throat (including the thyroid gland) is ruled by Taurus and my wise father is a Taurean. He encouraged me to investigate my enlarged thyroid from a more mystical and anthroposophical perspective. Rather than allowing fear to get the better of me (a brush with my own mortality) and consenting to the surgical removal of a gland that is yet to be fully understood, I followed my dad’s advice.

To cut the long story of an arduous, sometimes frightening, process short, I no longer have a goitre. But I still have my thyroid gland and I have found my voice. The sadness and self-loathing that once plagued me now exist only in my memory. These emotions that surfaced as part of exploring the deeper meaning of this “lump in my throat” pointed me towards conscious transformation of an unprocessed and unintegrated past. So even though I didn’t understand any of this at the time, attempts made to interpret my body’s messages led me on a journey of healing and metamorphosis. And this journey~process continues… I pray that it will for a long time. If it weren’t for my big fat neck, perhaps I’d’ve never awakened.

My intention in sharing this story is not to advocate that we should shun modern medicine. As a trained theatre nurse I understand and appreciate that there is a time and a place for surgery. I am not saying that making this choice was easy, or that it would be right for everyone. I share my story to make the point that our bodies have wisdom to share, and if we “hear” the messages we will benefit in ways that we cannot imagine. I believe each body possesses the capacity to heal itself, given the right circumstances. Foundational to these circumstances is openness. Resistance to the condition of the body exacerbates any and all problems, and creates further blockages.

This New Moon is Earthy ~ a Grand Earth Trine that involves the aforementioned planets in Taurus, Pluto in Capricorn and Jupiter and the Lunar North Node in Virgo ~ so all pursuits that ground us are valuable now. Connecting with our Earth Mother in nature trumps! The energy supports intentions set that are grounded in reality and being built upon strong foundations. We can certainly dream big (thanks Jupiter~North Node!) but there needs to be effort, determination, pragmatism, discipline, integrity and responsibility at the heart of our aspirations.

Happy Taurus New Moon

Mercury Retro in Taurus

Sometimes in the evening I realise that I’ve not used my time as well as I could’ve. I’m not speaking of mere efficiency. I’m an advocate for conscious laziness. But since my time is valuable, and so is yours, I think it is worth reflecting upon how we use this most precious resource.

Living in alignment with my own values is a value in its own right. That is, it is important to me that I use my moments wisely, whether I am with
my children, writing, walking, grocery shopping, doing dishes for the umpteenth time, whatever: I want to be present and respond appropriately to each opportunity.

This is the crux of mindfulness I suppose. There is the potential for enlightenment within each mundane chore. Eckhart Tolle describes the conscious choice between acceptance enjoyment and enthusiasm. We may not feel as though we have a choice about whether we go to work or not (maybe we ultimately do but the choice is between home and homeless) but we can always choose our response to our present situation. So maybe I’m hating my reality, but that negativity is always born out of resistance of what is. If it’s truly awful and creating nothing but suffering I must choose to change it, but otherwise I can accept~enjoy~be enthusiastic about whatever I am doing = (our perception of) everything changes.

So much of our thinking is habitual. We re-act out of patterns we have inherited or learned and forget to question ourselves. Our neurocircuitry is reinforced by repetitious thoughts and deeds, and so too is our karma. Our actions stem from intent. With our thoughts we make the world.

Rigid thought patterns are limiting and damaging too. We already know, so we reject new perspectives, different opinions, data that negates our well-established model of the world as we know it. This sort of fixity and stubbornness is low-road Mercury in Taurus.

Consideration of that which we value and of the ways in which we habitually use our time are themes of this Mercury retrograde in Taurus. Since we spend so much time in our minds we must develop awareness of our thoughts.

When we become more aware of our mind’s running commentary we can make a decision to change our thinking. Instead of a monologue of self-hate or judgement or complaints or resentment we can stop. Make a choice about your state of mind that aligns with your values.

When awareness returns you might be surprised, shocked even, by how many negative thoughts you are having. I know I was. Relentless silent punishments.

It is in our mind that intention is born. And intention is like a drawn arrow, aimed toward our future~goal~vision~dharma. From here we go forth, with words action and effort. If we are clear in our setting of intention, life unfolds in ways that support and inspire us.

Until the 23rd of May Mercury is retrograde, joining Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, so it is truly the season for reflection. A little time spent reviewing the ways in which your thoughts support or hinder your success~growth~evolution is in alignment with the current cosmic vibe.

Not a Bull but a nice Zen-looking cow

Make like sensual Taurus and prioritise time to connect with your body via feeling it’s messages. Rest, nourishment, time spent in nature, stillness, peace are necessary for our holistic well being. Acceptance that we don’t know all the answers is liberating. Relinquish control. Mystery abounds.

Surrender is a strength.
