Leo Full Moon Eclipse

All my life I’ve been surrounded by Leos. I feel I’ve grown up, a crab among a regal pride of lions (like a weird fable from Aesop), and that this has some divine purpose ~ I am learning the language and culture of Leo.

So far I have gathered that high-road Leo energy at its best is sunny and toasty warm, effortlessly confident and truly generous, encouraging and inclusive, fun and theatrical ~ a fine dose of the royal treatment. Less joyful times I’ve been left shell-shocked and retreating, pincers at the ready, trying to escape the neediness, drama, bombast, entitlement, imposition of low-road Leo vibrations.

The energy along this Leonine spectrum is bound to be plentiful and surging this weekend with Saturday’s Full Moon at 22° Leo.

Eclipses can bring challenging times. The energetic flow between the Sun and the Moon is interrupted leaving us Earth-dwellers feeling disoriented and often fragile. The lines between the conscious ego and unconscious emotional body blur, and we are especially vulnerable to our hidden fears and anxieties.

As the fiery energy builds and we feel (perhaps subconsciously) anxious to act, something’s gotta give. We experience difficulties in our relationships as complicated dynamics stir within and, literally before we know it, something from beneath the surface has emerged like a screaming banshee from our unconscious and flown out of our big gobs, leaving us (perpetrators and victims alike) shattered in its wake.

WTF just happened?!

There can be no doubt that this is damaging and upsetting BUT, we should not be too quick to judge such interactions as negative nasty unnecessary. These moments in life, so uncomfortable unexpected unpleasant unsolicited, offer transformational lessons and facilitate healing like nothing else.

Like, we don’t even consciously realise we have a problem, and all of a sudden, we let loose on our poor unsuspecting loved one, with an epic emotional diatribe… Spraying bullets of blame, hurling hand grenades of hatred, unleashing an arsenal of abuse, thrusting bayonets of umbrage, deploying an infantry of infantile angst, launching rockets of resentment… ok, enough with my self-indulgent wartime/weaponry references. Talk about Leo!

The 180° aspect known as the opposition, inherent in each monthly Full Moon, is a meaningful dynamic for most of 2017, as buoyant Jupiter and liberator Uranus oppose each other for months. The tension of the opposites implies balance, from each end of a spectrum, polarities push and pull, enabling growth and evolution. In her 1978 book Relating, inspiring astrologer Liz Greene writes:

“…the psyche always works towards a balance. One grows towards one’s opposite. This is at the same time one of the greatest struggles, one of the greatest joys and one of the most meaningful aspects of living experience” (p. 61).

The point is not to scapegoat our spouse (or other Other), or project our emotional wreckage upon the nearest (and dearest) target, but to recognise that if and when such inter-relationship intensity does occur, we can (maybe??) become conscious amid the mayhem and

from this point of humility vulnerability realness

we find our way out

together

hand-in-hand

stronger than before

and wiser too

because we find truth in the chaos, but we aren’t tethered to it ~ eternally seeking energy in perpetual histrionics.

Instead we see that yes, each has their perspective, and yes it is valid, and yes we have been hurt, but yes we too have hurt others, and yes we seek forgiveness and yes we can forgive. And release the past.

Where we take opportunities to see things from the other perspective, to see life in ways foreign to us, our consciousness expands and we grow. This naturally occurring shift is only possible through awareness of conflicting points of view. So, while it might be the vibe du jour to be all  (#hashtag) “love and light”, it is surrender to first-hand experience of and immersion in the opposite of this state = fear and darkness ~ that fosters evolution and a real life capacity for giving genuine love and light.

High-road Leo is love and light.

Like a big cosmic cuddle.

I hope you feel that vibe this weekend.

Aquarius New Moon

Saturday morning delivers our New Moon in Aquarius ~ sign of the genius revolutionary rebel exile that exists within us all. The Sun entered the fixed air sign of Aquarius last Friday morning and is joined now by the Moon, allowing us to gaze forward ~ to the future ~ intentionally taking the steps required to bring our vision into reality.

Aquarius and its modern-day planetary ruler Uranus, correlate with individuation and self-actualisation, wherein we know who we are but we must find courage to become it.

Becoming is the key. Who are we becoming?

In each moment of each day we are provided with an opportunity to act consciously and in alignment with what we want to be ~ the destined Self ~ or we can default to autopilot and the unconscious tendencies of yore.

Sometimes the road to expanding consciousness is lonely long winding ~ treacherous and steep ~ with sheer drops into cavernous gorges to our right and crumbling cliff faces threatening landslide to our left. There are no signs no maps no indication that this is The Way

Apart from some tiny inkling within that urges us on despite the apparent recklessness and the loud voice that hollers abuse from within “go home you fool!”

Is this tiny inkling the spark of individuating Self, that knows this is the only way? Even though everyone else might whisper and point and ridicule and condemn (and perhaps secretly admire but never admit it aloud) we just know we must go on.

Such knowing can get us into trouble of course. It is important to cultivate insight, frequently checking in with our motivations and evolving consciousness to ensure that we are on course and that the path we are treading is still aligned with our own self-actualisation. When we hear our voice speaking in tones that signal arrogance and pride and stubbornness we must be alert to our own egoic missteps.

But when the knowing is sort of quiet, self-assured, intent, humble, cautious but confident, perhaps then we might trust it. As we continue on, step by step, working diligently towards the goals and future we dream of, we might have faith that indeed this is The Way.

Asteroid Hygieia’s trine to Uranus supports our healing journey towards wholeness, especially encouraging restorative connection with nature now. Contemplation of our place in the Circle of Life fosters a sense of reverence as we marvel at the majesty of It All whilst also knowing that each of us is made of the same stuff

~ we ~ no less than the stars and the Moon

In balance, Venus square Saturn and separating from Chiron emphasises self-love and acceptance of our ubiquitous human frailty. In the wake of what might’ve shaken us to our core we find strength in our recognition that, despite our many differences, we are fundamentally all the same ~ one humankind ~ Aquarius…

This year promises so much, but we each must do our bit. Despite our misgivings, anxieties, doubts and worries, Mars’ imminent ingress into Aries might inspire us all to act bravely, in accordance with our own truth…

an’ it harm none, do what ye will ∞

Aries Full Moon

My Libra Sun ~ Aries Moon baby girl blazing a trail
My Libra Sun ~ Aries Moon baby girl blazing a trail

This weekend’s Aries Full Moon is edgy, with potential for genius insights, unsettling awakenings and anything in between. The nearby presence of Uranus and Eris suggest that we ought to expect the unexpected and, in preparation for the dark overtones, cultivate impulse control.

Uranus’ mutinous urge to individuate is not always fit for public consumption. And Eris’ poor social skills of mythic proportions see her eternally exiled. Other planetary heavy hitters throwing their weight around this weekend include power trippers Mars and Pluto scaling the peaks of (Mt.) Capricorn; Black Moon Lilith treading the dark waters of Scorpio, Saturn relentlessly driving home his Sagittarian point du jour in attempts to keep us North (Node) bound…

But where is the light of this lovely Moon?

We look to (not directly at) the source of life ~ the Sun ~ to find our middle road that leads us to Libra high country! Pursued by Mercury and Jupiter, recall that clear communication, optimism and courtesy take us a long way this weekend… we catch more flies with honey. Although I don’t know why we want to catch flies?

Remember to breathe

be kind and

stay calm

Capricorn Full Moon

The Full Moon in Capricorn occurs at 6.57am (AWST) on Wednesday the 20th of July. Capricorn the Sea~Goat symbolises responsibility, duty, maturity, discipline, wisdom and limitations. A cardinal earth sign, Capricorn initiates efforts towards the creation of material security.

At the opposing end of this axis is Cancer ~ the archetypal Mother; Capricorn is the archetypal Father ~ paternal reliable consistent firm sometimes a little rigid but seeking to guide us towards success status stability. Capricorn’s orderly approach supports us in the establishment of solid foundations upon which we may build a future that aligns with our high ideals.

The planetary ruler of this Capricorn lunation is Saturn, which remains in square aspect to Neptune, the Lunar Nodes and Jupiter. As we aspire and work towards our dreams, or process moments~times~events passed, Saturn patiently, persistently reminds us of our boundaries. Regardless of our attitude towards them, we must work within these limits. And for so long as we shirk our responsibilities we will not get far. Saturn insists upon integrity and accountability.

As this Full Moon light is reflected upon us all we find illuminated the duties we had overlooked. Are we stubbornly resisting lessons that implore us to bow in humility? Are we getting in our own way? On closer inspection can we accept more personal responsibility for the roles we play in life’s challenges and dysfunction?

In so doing, we are empowered, as we can truly change none other than ourselves. And as we recognise ways in which we have contributed to our own defeats, we find ways that we can do-over, more effective than before.

Sometimes life slows us down, and we feel stifled and frustrated, wondering whether we’ve chosen the wrong path or kidded ourselves in some way. The intensity of the Mars retrograde (coincident with five other planets in their retrograde phases also ~ AKA retrograde season) has left many of us feeling defeated and doubtful but as Mars’ direct motion picks up speed this Full Moon will assist us to see things that were invisible before this slowing down phase.

The delays that appeared to be mere inconvenient setbacks and impediments later prove to serve us well. When we take what we’ve learned in reflection we improve our attitude and our perspective is renewed, with more wisdom and confidence we now go forth.

This Full Moon also aspects Uranus the Awakener. Known for its disruptive and unpredictable influence (so different to Saturn), we can expect the unexpected. Uranus in turn aspects Mars in an uncomfortable but potentially rewarding interaction. For best results, we might channel this volatility into movement and creativity, lest we allow the energy to manifest unconsciously and impel us into circumstances less positive.

Life rarely unfolds as we expect it to, but always leads us to where we can, if we so choose, benefit in ways we could not have foreseen.

“Instead of what our imagination makes us suppose and which we worthless try to discover, life gives us something that we could hardly imagine” Marcel Proust.

Aries New Moon

DSCF7480The approaching Aries New Moon occurs on Thursday 7th of April, at 6.25pm (AWST). Aries, like the sheep that symbolises it, is sometimes under-appreciated, sold short or dumbed down. Truly, it is the pure raw vitality of the Ram that catalyses our human experience. We are propelled into consciousness by Aries’ primal urge to be. We have become a self, suddenly aware that we are alive. Bravely stepping up, into the breach…

Courageous. Pioneering. Adventurous. Independent. Creative.

Aries is the sign of the subjective me ~ the Self. As we grow from infancy, through childhood and puberty, and into hopefully evolving adults we create an identity. We learn about ourselves along the way, collating experiences and knowledge to better understand and define who we are. This experience, like all human experiences as represented by the 12 signs of the zodiac, has inherent limits. Beyond the Self there is much to explore, but without the Self there is no-one who would bother to explore it.

The archetypal warrior lives within each of us, and when we feel compelled to fight for something that resonates deep within our psyche, or to defend ourselves or another against wrongdoing, it is upon our innate Aries power that we must draw. To take right action, we must be clear and courageous. Courage is not the absence of fear, but showing up despite the fear. If we run~hide, we miss an opportunity to cultivate courage.

“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage” Anaïs Nin

This New Moon occurs in conjunction with Uranus, the great awakener! Like a bolt from the blue, shock insights and sudden realisations transpire under Uranian influence. Uranus can also act as the link from our past to our future: the part of our soul that knows everything that has ever, or will ever happen! Cultural historian Richard Tarnas linked Uranus to mythological Greek Titan Prometheus who, after fashioning prototype humans out of clay, bestowed us with fiery creative power, as opposed to animal instincts.

Uranus in Aries (until March 2019) wants us to channel our uniqueness in order that we may self-actualise, Maslow styles. Turn pro. We are now cosmically supported in conscious development of the me~you that we want to be! The lead up to the Aries New Moon is an opportune time to muse upon our goals for individuation over the next three years. An exploration of your natal chart can discern how this is best approached. And as the Aries New Moon occurs we set courageous intent.

The New Moon~Sun~Uranus in Aries conjunction is also in harmonious aspect to lunation ruler Mars, thus granting us the gumption we need to set the goals that demand we aim for high road Aries. Be not the sheep who follow blindly, but the Ram who blazes a trail! Do not allow the wool to be pulled over our eyes, relinquishing our will and ambition to the herd (or is it flock?) mentality that rewards us with nothing more than safety, in numbers. Be brave, clench fists
