Gemini New Moon 2017

Early Friday morning (3.46am AWST 26th May 2017) heralds the New Moon in Gemini and our benevolent cosmos provides yet more opportunities for expanding our human potential…

And opening our minds

While Gemini says “I think” and seeks to gather information, we are wise to recognise that limitations are inherent in the dualistic modus operandi we currently collectively subscribe to. Perhaps this New Moon delivers a message of divine import ~ are we being called to realise our potential for a more integrated world view?

As we recognise that truth is not an either/or situation

but a both/and invitation to access all-encompassing whole truth.

This week there is an impasse, the dual nature of our either/or thinking leaves us without an out. We are bound between two incompatible realities, gagged by irreconcilable differences, and co-existence seems impossible. We feel hopeless, helpless. How can we escape this world of pain wherein nothing and no one seems willing or able to shift…?

The answer comes via objectivity, allowing enough space for the tension of the opposites to be as they are, releasing frustration and attachment, being open to the emergence of a mysterious reconciliatory creative relationship between the forces at play. Rather than to-ing and fro-ing evermore and finding ourselves disappointed compromised unfulfilled we might instead make room for a third force

Armenian mystic G.I. Gurdjieff describes the Law of Three ~ affirming denying reconciling ~ of which the inspiring Reverend Dr Cynthia Bourgeault writes “no resistance, no new arising

Or perhaps the necessity of opposition in evolution.

One way to access such a spacious place of grace is by becoming humble enough to question our own tendencies and patterns. Is it our own incapacity for flexibility and openness that prohibits our forward motion? Do our own limiting answers sabotage our journey on the path to what’s possible? Are we inadvertently repeating ourselves because we are not accepting authority for our lives?

Truly our potential is beyond our wildest imaginings

“But nothing can be attained in sleep” said G.I. Gurdjieff

While we do appear to be awake, fully-functioning autonomous grown-ups tending to our roles and responsibilities in the straight world, the truth is that until we awaken we are very much at the mercy of our unconscious inertia (even, or perhaps especially, when we behave and look as though we are actively doggedly pursuing “success”). Once we have one of those so-called peak experiences (often a brush with mortality, loss or trauma) and find ourselves suddenly irreparably conscious, life begins to unfold in miraculous ways that prompt us towards individuation, and life as we know it will never be the same again.

Gemini is associated with The Fool archetype, who signifies a kind of blind faith, optimism and willingness to set forth on a journey despite there being so many unanswered questions…

With Mercury now in Taurus we are reminded of the value of patience, to trust that life will present us with all that we need. Maintaining a stubborn belief that we already have all the answers does not foster the emergence of imagination. A little honest self-appraisal and reflective humility quickly reveals the illusory nature of such delusions of grandeur. Sometimes Spartan stillness is the only way to be granted access to the unapparent and uncomfortable avenue of answers.

The questions around our human existence demand that we find new solutions. To paraphrase Albert Einstein, a problem cannot be solved by the same consciousness that created it… thus we cannot hope to elucidate a path forward, personally or collectively, without expanding our consciousness, opening our minds, surrendering to our not-knowingness and inviting space/grace that allows possibilities to emerge ~ solutions.

Gemini is mutable and curious, so at this New Moon, let the information flow freely direct from the source, let the vulnerability of our imperfections give rise to acceptance compassion forgiveness, let us deepen our comprehension of that which we value, and let us open our whole selves to new possibilities.

Who knows what lies ahead in this mad world?!

Taurus New Moon 2017

Wednesday evening’s Taurus New Moon represents our monthly opportunity to begin anew ~ having been armed with fresh insights or even inspiration that emerged during the six week Venus retrograde. These now become conscious as retrograde Mercury translates the messages from the Underworld and beyond into fodder for left brain integration…

“I have” says Taurus ~ a phrase to which we can all relate in our endless quest for security via accrual of more more more

yet, paradoxically, it is the relinquishment of our need for security that allows us to experience it

For things are not as stable as they might appear ~ security, like control, is an illusion

Symptomatic of the human condition, we tend to avoid any sense of insecurity by defaulting to reactive patterns that protect us from vulnerability.

But as we learn to abide in insecurity we open ourselves to new possibilities. We find ourselves grounded in the present, here and now, and able to respond creatively, with love, and not bound by fear (manifesting as anxiety anger rage depression etc).

If we could just allow ourselves the chance to pause

The security sought by Taurus can truly only be found within this liminal space ~ redemptive moments between moments that we might seize in order to find peace and escape the insanity of reaction and over-reaction.

The retrograde motion of Mercury, until the 4th of May, always encourages review reconsideration reflection

REcognition that there might be another way ~ some nuance that adds a new dimension to our comprehension of life’s meaning ~ slowing down to revise is not pointless

Walking on the beach looking for cuttlefish for the kids, I turn to head back the way I’ve come to give the girls the chalky treasures, I don’t expect to find many, if any, more to contribute to their collection yet I find at least half a dozen large ones I’d have thought it was impossible to overlook…

this simple analogy, I believe, is echoed in life’s multifaceted complexity. We often think we have all the facts, only to discover through the magical influence of time and space, that there are other previously imperceptible dimensions at play…

and delays have indeed favoured us, in spite of our resistance to them. Are we wise enough to learn to accept, even welcome, the slowing down of life against our will? Can we recognise that this intelligent and benevolent cosmos seeks to support and guide us?

The urge to push seems to occur for many of us during retrograde phases, especially with Mercury now in the feisty first sign of the zodiac Aries the Ram (cardinal fire BOOM!) but this is antithetical to what is generally required of such times. More often than not, though they can be difficult to endure, delays favour us. We find that when we surrender to the natural yin-ness and honour the call from within, we are rewarded by new insights and deeper understanding

Vibe a la The Bull and slow down

Libra Full Moon 2017

Another Full Moon is upon us, and the astroscape is intense! King of excess Jupiter (even in reverse-mode!) is keeping the spark alive between Change Gods Pluto and Uranus. Thankfully, retrograde Mercury, Saturn and Venus offer room for reflection ~ let’s hope the (ostensible) powers-that-be will allow themselves this luxury! Amidst these turbulent times, we too find solace in the inner space afforded by various retrogrades and waning cycles…

The Libra Full Moon, exact on Tuesday afternoon (2.08pm AWST) illuminates insights revealed by (Full Moon ruler) Venus’ magical retrograde. We are uncovering true worth, in ourselves, in others, in life and all she provides.

Venus’ new guise as the morning star represents awakening ~ as the truth dawns on us in all its beauty ~ we are reminded that our own self-worth is not dependent upon the approval of others…

I don’t need everybody to like me! I must remain true to my inner muse and honour my own truth by walking my talk, no matter what they say. Let me not be distracted by tall poppy ponderings…

“will they think I’m crazy?”

“who do I think I am?!”

On that note, forgive me a digression… the dream that came to me the night after my first astrology workshop (JupiterReturn-inspired conscious act of individuation) ~ I sit in a dark room beside an old lady who describes herself as the daughter of Carl Jung. She shows me her jewels ~ a pile of rainbow gems trinkets treasures riches ~ and then she departs, promising to return, leaving me poring over the valuables…

We are being asked now to trust in the Piscean mystery of life ~ to accept it as it is and know that, as we act in alignment with truth, we will be guided

and the jewels (our meaningful reward) will be entrusted to us in turn

The cosmos is now calling us to show up more visibly in our own lives. The light of this Moon helps us to see where we sell ourselves short + dumb ourselves down and empowers us to liberate ourselves! Authenticity is key to our sense of self-worth and to our ability to live wholeheartedly. Mars supports us in acting courageously and intentionally.

As Venus turns direct later this week we are also blessed with opportunities to let go of our concepts ideals attachments illusions delusions around love

For as long as we remain stuck in a view of what love should be we cannot know love. But the moment we surrender to the moment, in all its glorious imperfection, and accept our chosen mate in all his/her humanness, we find their true worth

and love appears.

Not only that, but a chance exists now to release ourselves from the self-imposed limitations of expectation

The true worth of things (situations events people) cannot emerge until we relinquish the clouded perspective of what we want them to be, which requires that they be different to how they actually are in reality…

Venus’ current fusion with Chiron helps us to find the value in our vulnerabilities. These “cracks where the light gets in” are indeed our gateway to humility and compassion, and so to genuine connection and intimacy.

Here we find Libra ~ relating to others & relating to life ~ we evolve through the contributions made by others and through our capacity to connect with these contributions meaningfully.

1+1=>2

Venus Retrograde

Venus is the planetary representation of love&beauty… both of which require appreciation and an ability to relate to something~someone~an experience. There is a dynamic relationship implied by Venus ~ give and take ~ we are stirred by something we observe or perceive (a song, an artwork, a landscape, a person) and we respond inwardly, by feeling. A connection occurs.

Retrogrades always provide opportunities for reflection and revision. Venus’ retro trip gives us cause to reconsider the ways in which we “do” Venus… how do we do love? Over the coming six weeks Venus will disappear from view in the western sky at sunset, and then reappear as the morning star in the east at dawn, before turning direct again on the 14th of April.

“Whenever Beauty looks, Love is also there, Whenever Beauty shows a rosy cheek, Love lights Her flame from that fire, When Beauty dwells in the dark folds of night, Love comes and finds a heart entangled in tresses, Beauty and Love are as body and soul Beauty is the mine, Love is the diamond, They have together, since the beginning of time, Side by side, step by step” Rumi

Too often love is sold out as something it is not

The idea that love is limited to a romantic fairy tale wherein we are swept off our feet by (prince) charming Mister Right and whisked over the threshold into the sunset to be happy ever after, or that Miss Right as embodiment of perfection remains as such forevermore, i.e. perfect… is, I believe, a fantasy. These concepts, often stemming from our cultural childhood indoctrination by Disney, can be harmful in their inference that is with others that we find our bliss. Despite the enormous value of the myths from which the Disney stories come, our modern-day interpretation causes damage as we internalise the belief that something outside of ourselves is the cure for what ails.

Love, my mother wisely decreed throughout my youth, is a verb: a doing word. To the extent that we practice love, we feel its effects. Love is not something that happens to us as we passively drift through life. Where we expect that others should love us better, we ought to first consider the love we have for ourselves. Our sense of self worth, that we have value, comes not from an external source (animal mineral or vegetable), yet it does come through relationship…

Love is one word that can be used to describe divine experience, wherein we perceive the connection that exists between us as individuals and some higher power AKA God, YHWH, Spirit, Source, the collective unconscious, All That Is et al. Nourishment of this experience cultivates self love that provides a fecund foundation for living life wholeheartedly, bravely, generously, joyfully and is thus exponentially rewarding for humankind.

The Buddhist practice of loving kindness towards others is a fine and practical way to cultivate the positive expression of Venus energy in one’s life. It is meaningful and transformational in that its intention is virtuous and its outcomes (when the practice is undertaken with utmost integrity) are most often favourable for all.

But we perhaps need first to commit to loving ourselves ~ discovering our own inherent value through embracing the Venusian vibes bestowed upon us all in life’s myriad beautiful moments. Seek them out, nurture the connection, revel in the relationship between you and the beauty perceived outside that resonates with the beauty found inside.

Honour it.

Live it.

♥Love it.

Taurus Uber~Moon

Ferdinand the bull

Tonight’s (9.53 AWST Monday 14th November 2016) Taurus SuperMoon is the mother of all Full Moons! Not since 1948 has she come so near in her Fullness, and we won’t be so close again until 2034! A visual spectacle to be sure, but what of the energy…?

This Full Moon offers us the opportunity to glimpse the ways in which we enable our own forward motion, or not. How do the resources we cultivate allow our going forward as co-creators of our lives? Or not? How do we allocate our resources? Time, money, energy, effort… how do we prioritise our chosen pursuits? And what motivates us in these choices? Honestly.

So much of life is spent in mundane reality. There are bills to pay, mouths to feed, dishes to do… an unending loop of mortal coil. To aid in our functioning we forge efficient routines, habits, grooves, ruts. We can live within the safety of routine for a long time, habitually replaying our moments and our thoughts. Forever if we forget to wake up. Life can become a relentless working week, or similar.

Often, we must work to the rhythms of others (children, employer, partners, friends), perhaps neglecting our own. As we lose contact with our own needs we become increasingly disconnected from our innate fixed earthy feminine (not female) Taurean wisdom

Taurus rules our inner security ~ high road Taurus takes us from possessive materialism that attempts to buy our sense of contentment to the land of peaceful self-sufficiency via connection to our own physical bodies ~ being fully in our bodies and nourishing our physical needs with premium sustenance, hydration, movement, rest, repose

Through consciously engaging with what our bodies need in any given moment and honouring those needs in deed we supply our material form with the energy it requires to carry us through our mundane days, working towards our hopes and dreams, living with presence and an attentiveness to our inner lives where we find

life is rich with meaning that transforms our reality

Too, Taurus helps us to acquire the resources (skills) we need to patiently slowly steadily bring our dreams into manifestation. Greek God Hephaestus has been linked to Taurus; Melanie Reinhart writes,

“Like Chiron, Hephaestus was wounded… [he] represents a creative energy which does not turn in upon itself and destroy its own potential in response to the pain of having been rejected… Hephaestus enables others to express their own individuality and their selfhood, or their inner divinity, and this gift is part of his own individuality. He is dedicated to his craft despite being wounded. He refuses to be crushed by rejection and humiliation, but instead honours and expresses his own creativity… [he] represents the potential, through self-respect and perseverance, to turn one’s area of woundedness into a place from which fine creativity can issue.”

The illumination offered at this Full Moon asks us to consider our Scorpionic darkness yes, but as well, to find our inner warrior Pallas Athene ~ goddess of wisdom ~ who will empower embolden inspire us in our journeys onward toward individuation, toward finding our innate source of inner security, toward wholeness. There may be battles, within and without, as we remain true to our selves. This path of authenticity is not easy, but the only path that promises true fulfilment beyond the mere material ~ we find our serenity in the quiet knowledge of having lived in alignment with our own values. Peace be with youse 🙂

Libra New Moon

The Libra New Moon occurs on Saturday 1st of October 2016 (8.11am AWST). The Sun and Moon are at 8° Libra and nearby at 4° we find benevolent Jupiter. Such an auspicious New Moon this is! And it has depth too.

Venus is the ruler of the lunation, and she is conjunct Lilith in Scorpio. Another reminder of our inner feminine ~ soft receptive yin processes coupled with the self-assuredness of inner knowing. There is an awakening of this powerful force occurring and this New Moon presses for the increased awareness of the neglected (and thus often angry) unconscious feminine. As we integrate feminine power, we come to know her mercy.

Scorpio represents the dark in all its complexity. Nothing is as it appears. Light allows us clarity of vision, but sometimes robs us of the subtlety of feeling. In the dark it is the only way forward, to feel our way.

The Sun~Moon~Jupiter square Mars and Pluto in Capricorn. There is strength and power here. It is important for us to know what we truly want as these two planets conjoin later this month, for such misdirected energy has the power to harm. Mars’ exaltation in Capricorn adds fervour to our mission: we now begin to implement our long-considered plans and Mars spurs us on supportively.

Neptune and the Lunar South Node remain in conjunction in Pisces ~ our efforts at releasing that which no longer serves us are supported now. The Dark Moon in Virgo helps us to discern what these things might be… habits, relationships, attachments, the past, limiting “stories of me”

2011_0103end20100378

Libra seeks balance. Implicit in balance is a midpoint, a midline, a middle road. And as we journey towards establishing our own balance~ homeostasis ~ equilibrium we must first experience imbalance. We experiment and evaluate, investigate and appraise in an ongoing (potentially exhausting) human trial and error display that takes us to extreme and polar ends of the spectrum of life.

During an Equinox meditation with Sol W. Jonassen I was struck by the concept of the midline (third eye~heart~solar plexus). Throughout this mediation she reminded us to return to our midline. I found this simple act of going within and knowing my own centre point to be very supportive.

I have been using it since then in my daily life, trying to remember to come back to my midline during the day. When things become frustrating or boring or crazy or challenging in any way it becomes particularly helpful. I have used other methods to ground myself in this way in the past (usually breathing deeply) but these often require time and space that is not always realistic (what with The Cherubs underfoot). This little idea has been so beneficial to me…

here’s what I do: I shut my eyes and put my attention on my inner third eye or my heart chakra, or maybe both if I have time, and something happens… there is space… inner space… and at the same time there is comfort… I feel better.

A tiny reminder of the middle way…

not cowardly or reckless but courageous

not loose or rigid but flowing

not resistant or resigned but accepting

not aloof or possessive but engaged

not narcissistic or martyred but authentic

not right or wrong but learning

not attachment or aversion but love

For so long as we are genuinely doing our work we are on the right track, so let us journey on friends ♥

Gemini New Moon

IMG_0821
Twin telephones in Ross, Tasmania

In between two Sagittarian Full Moons, Sunday 11AM (AWST) we find ourselves at the Gemini New Moon for 2016. The Gemini~Sagittarius axis is about collating information and experience in order to formulate a meaningful perspective of life. Gemini is the inquisitive student ~ learning, thinking, listening, understanding, talking, debating ~ to make sense of the immediate environment Gemini assimilates vast stores of information… with the potential for TMI-overload a real possibility. Near-sightedness can limit Gemini to living above the neck ~ think think thinking…

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon~Sun~Venus in Gemini is two Dutch children talking ~ thus a mutual sharing of ideas and opinions ideally supports our growth as we learn new things and hear differing viewpoints. This can be particularly expansive when we feel instinctive resistance to an other’s expression of truth, but allow space to pause and consider before closing our minds~hearts~ears.

Mercury’s Sabian Symbol is interesting to note also, as Mercury rules Gemini and hence this New Moon. A finger pointing in an open book denotes rectification as we uncover new information that deepens our understanding, or corrects our misunderstanding. Guidance is implied by this symbol too, suggesting that a willingness to be receptive and open benefits us as we reorientate to go forward.

Gemini is symbolised by the twins ~ duality ~ our dual natures comprise complex and paradoxical aspects that mostly dwell in our unconscious…

feminine & masculine

light & shadow

duty & desire

heart & mind

within & without

good & evil

divine & earthly

life & death

So often, we find ourselves “in two minds” about something, torn between conflicting perspectives: part of us wants this, and the other part wants that, and we are genuine in our confusion and polarity. Can we find ways to balance the needs of different aspects of our psyche? Must we always choose black or white, disappointing one half of who we are? Or can we learn to love grey ~ blending our inconsistencies? Can we create a third option?

The evolutionary path asks that we immerse ourselves in duality, for it is our knowledge that we are separated from the source that allows our consciousness to grow. Were humanity to have remained “at one” with our surroundings, our evolution would be limited to that of the animal kingdom. The innate wisdom of our fellow creatures is great, more often seemingly greater than our own, because they are aligned with all that is. Our challenge however, is distinct: to return to oneness we must journey through the fires of polarity ~ fully engaged in human experience.

This Gemini New Moon occurs in conjunction with Venus, and as part of a Grand Mutable Cross… Jupiter in Virgo ~ Saturn in Sagittarius ~ Neptune in Pisces. Too, the Grand Earth Trine remains and offers some groundedness to the cosmic vibes. Thus we are blessed with adaptability and discipline, discernment and vision. Our Venusian muse can inspire us in setting intent that recognises our polar nature, allows for our contradictoriness, loves us because we are conflicted and confused.

Versatility, resilience and flexibility are key to successfully navigating the astroscape of the coming weeks ~ cultivate the adaptability of the shapeshifting Mutable signs ~ welcome change ♥

“God help us to change. To change ourselves and to change the world. To know the need for it. To deal with the pain of it. To feel the joy of it. To undertake the journey without understanding the destination. The art of gentle revolution. Amen” Michael Leunig

Easter long weekend

As the steady rain rejuvenates the parched earth left behind in Summer’s wake, it is the Easter long weekend and the astro-scape is inspiring!

There is a T-square between opposing Venus in Pisces and Jupiter in Virgo, that is anchored by Saturn in Sagittarius. Jupiter opposing Venus encourages expansion and opening of the heart, an enhanced desire for connection. The square with Saturn can highlight any deficiencies we  are feeling around this inherent Venusian impulse to love, and form meaningful relationships.

Remarkably, of all 360 Sabian Symbols two involved in this weekends T-square include the only two Easter images! Saturn’s Sabian Symbol is an Easter sunrise service denoting a celebration of rebirth, renewal, resurrection. With Sagittarian openness we cultivate a positive attitude as we welcome people from all walks of life in the spirit of connection. We are warned against cynicism and stubbornness, and an “inability to recognise underlying significance” (Roche, 1998, p.291) of the deeper meaning of the festival ~ the reason for the season: honouring the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the more ancient Pagan celebration of fertility, new beginnings and hope.

Pisces’ higher consciousness can be linked to Christ and our urge to return to Source (the resurrection > ascension into the clouds) is distinctly Piscean. We are all human beings and we each suffer in our lives. Rather than falling into traps of judgement, blame, and projection, with Venusian support we might edge closer to Christ-like compassion and forgiveness. Venus is a little over halfway through her journey through Pisces and imploring us to connect to something larger than ourselves, whether that be a significant other, the collective, or God.

Venus in Pisces’ current Sabian Symbol is an Easter promenade, once more representing celebration. The accent for this symbol is on individual self-expression, presenting ourselves in a considered, not ostentatious, way that makes the most of our gifts. Generosity of spirit is encouraged, as we share our skills and talents for the benefit of the collective. We are cautioned against attention-seeking behaviour that could make us appear foolish, especially when Jupiter is involved…

Transiting Jupiter’s Sabian Symbol now is an erupting volcano! The explosive release of subconscious power and passion can be volatile and so requires awareness and conscious direction. We can positively express ourselves with a dramatic flair and enhance the experience of the collective. Virgo reminds us to retain a sense of humility, while Saturn’s influence returns us to basics = breath ~ presence ~ respect for others needs and space.

The energy bound to T-squares can often best be harnessed by using any harmonious aspects (60° and 120°) that play into the anchor planet. This weekend Mercury and Uranus are trining (120°) Saturn. Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury: these two planets represent mind functions ~ perception, memory, thought, communication.

Quick Mercury is is our conscious mind. Slow-moving Uranus is our unconscious ~ the undiscovered unmapped psyche. High-road Mercury is questioning, curious and open-minded, while low-road Mercury already knows the answers, having formed a satisfactory view of the world long ago. High-road Uranus represents our soul’s accumulated knowledge accessed via intuitive flashes of insight and altered states of consciousness ~ like lightening! Low-road Uranus uses this acquired information in ways that are contrary, selfish and irresponsible.

Mercury’s trip through Aries (complete on the 6th of April) supports the formulation of an updated Self informed by freshly accumulated data. Uranus in Aries (until March 2019) supports our individuation, and as an expression of this evolving energy this Easter weekend, we are called to be joyfully true to our present selves, to celebrate the symbolic rebirth~resurrection.

IMG_0678During this long weekend we are cosmically supported in giving ourselves permission to be free of the shackles of the past. Emboldened by Aries courage, buoyed by Jupiter’s optimism, open of mind and heart we must take some time to simply enjoy life! In gratitude.
